Report from Representative Executive Committee to Erect Monuments of the
Founder
- ....We were able to erect a statue of the founder, Morihei Ueshiba, at the
Aiki-Shrine due to the tremendous support of the Aikido community from
home and abroad in November, 2009.
Iwama(currently Kasama-city),where the Aiki Shrine is located, is not only well known to aikido
practitioners but also to many others as a holy site of Aikido.
Kasama Station (Joban Line) openedin 1895 as the gateway to Kasama city
and as such has been in service for 117 years. On July 24th, 2012 the station
was rebuilt and a previously non-existent east exit was inaugurated reducing
the length of the path to the Aiki-Shrine by roughly 400 meters.
Surplus material from the construction of the 2009 statue at the Aiki-Shrine was used for the manufacture of a new bust of the Founder and was donated to Kasama–city. It was placed in the Ikoi-No-Hiroba, a plaza at the front of the east exit, to contribute to the continued development of the Kasama area.
